I feel like every girl goes through something similar: the struggle of finding your personal style. We all want our outfits to reflect our own unique personality. Unfortunately it's not that easy. Finding pieces that will make you not only look, but also feel good is pretty hard. I've struggled with finding my fashion sense for ages as well. I've always had this everchanging style that differed on a daily basis. Sometimes I wore girly clothes, other times I looked like a edgy rock chick. However, after a lot of thinking, analyzing and of course shopping, I finally found the style that truly represents me. I want to make this journey slightly easier for you, so that's why I'm going to showing you how to find your style in 5 steps. These steps worked for me, so I'm pretty sure they will work for you too!
I hope you enjoyed the video! I've written down all the steps you need to take to find your style as well down below, so you can go back and check everything you need to do, without re-watching the video and making notes!
5 STEPS TO FINDING YOUR PERSONAL STYLE
Step 1: Discover what items you like. First of all, you have to find out what kind clothing and accessories you like to see. Personally, the best way I found to do that is by creating a mood board. If you want to go old skool and do some DIY work, you can use some carton and magazines, but I would really recommend creating a Style Inspiration board on Pinterest. You can find my mood board here, if you're interested.
Step 2: Make a list of why you like certain looks. Next up is the most difficult step: you need to analyze the photos you picked for your Style Inspiration board and make a list of why you like these certain looks. Maybe you like the outfits because of the neutral color scheme. Maybe you like it because of the oversized fits. Or maybe you're just obsessed with leather jackets.
Step 3: Experiment with items that suit you. I want to address two things: first of all it is very important to stick to items that suit you and your bodyshape. Everybody is beautiful in their own way. Instead of wanting to look like someone else, you should pick items that will emphasize your best features. However, the second thing I want to address is that you should not stick to those 'fashion rules' we all know. If you think something looks good on you, even though it's not conventional, well f*ck that. Just experiment and find items that really suit your style.
Step 4: Find key pieces for your wardrobe. So after discovering, analyzing and experimenting you will have a good idea of what your style is. Now it's time for the fun part: shopping! You'll have to add your (newly discovered) key pieces to your wardrobe. My personal key pieces are leather jackets, mom jeans, high heels and luxury accessories to elevate my style. If you're wondering about all my key pieces, you can check out my How To Build Your Capsule Wardrobe With Basics post here.
Step 5: Avoid trends. This last step is not really a step, but more a tip or advice. When it comes to finding your style, it's important to stick to what you like instead of just following trends. It can be rather easy to just buy what's popular in stores, but your wardrobe will last you way longer if you only buy pieces that really go with it. Trends fade, style is eternal!
I hope you enjoyed reading about my tips on how to find your personal style. Creating your own fashion sense wíth matching wardrobe can be quite a tedious process, but it's worth it. It takes a lot of time and work, but in the end you can have a closet filled with clothes that go with your personality, boost your confidence and just make you feel good about yourself. Hopefully this blogpost will make it a bit easier for you as well!
