PERSONAL | How I Stay Motivated

One of the most asked questions I get is how I stay motivated. Although I’ve talked about motivation before, I really felt like I needed to touch down on this topic once more. Most of you know that I’m a full time law student (just started my second half of the first semester of my Research Master in Law), a philosophy student, running my own two businesses, while maintaining a social life and a healthy lifestyle. So how do I do it? What’s my secret to stay motivated? Well guys, I’m going to give you a very personal and non-typical explanation for how I stay motivated, even through hard times.

So, although I usually like to write things down instead of talk about them on Youtube, this time I wanted to make a difference. And I hope you found it somewhat helpful or inspiring. I like to see motivation not as an emotion, but as a state of mind. Rather than ‘feeling’ motivated, motivation is more like a thought process for me: thinking in a particular way makes me want to be motivated and do the tasks I want to achieve. Although we can’t control how we feel, our emotions being constantly in flux, we can control how we think. That’s a very powerful thought to me. I believe, that we are all 100% responsible for our own actions. We choose the way we think, act and response to certain situations we are in. Even in the worst situations, we have the freedom to choose how we respond and the burden of that responsibility resting on us. So if we choose to do nothing, be lazy and waste our time, we can’t blame it on ‘oh that’s just the way I am’. No, you’re actively choosing to act this way, even if you’re not realizing it (yet). Understanding this, makes you realize how much in control you actually have over your life, which makes me feel very powerful and motivated to reach my goals. This is kind of my interpretation of Jean Paul Sartre’s existentialism and this thought process is how I stay motivated in law school.

There’s no ’10 lifehacks to motivation’ or a ‘motivational secret’ that I’m keeping from you. With the right mindset, waking up early and working hard you can a achieve everything you want – I truly believe that.

That is so right! Motivation isn’t emotion based but having the right mindset. I know for me I always start off the day binge-watching SVU and laying around in the bed. It’s comfortable don’t get wrong but it doesn’t set the right tone for the day . It’s good to get up and get going. This post is a definite must read and so was your video.
p.s I really do love your law school vlogs. I want to attend law school after graduation so it’s good to see how it actually is. Even though your in a different country the work load is all the same.
