One of my cornerstone articles and videos is the 'Fashion Guide' series. I started this series because I felt like there wasn't any information available about seasonal fashion that was not only evolved around trends. Don't take me wrong; Trends are fun. However, if you want to prevent the 'I have so many clothes, yet nothing to wear'-situation, you must also invest in some basics to pair you trendy pieces with. In this series, I wanted to create content that showed a couple of my favorite trends for the upcoming season, but also focused my go to basics you'll need in your wardrobe all year round. So in this Summer Fashion Guide I am going to show you 5 of my musthave trends and 5 Summer capsule wardrobe basics including a shopping checklist you can take with you whenever your shopping, so you won't be buying unnecessary sh*t, haha.
Hope you enjoyed watching my Summer Fashion Guide video! Down below you can check out my shopping checklist with all the trendy musthaves and basic wardrobe essentials you'll need for your closet this Summer. Whenever you're going on a shopping spree, just open this blogpost on your phone and check off every item you're still missing in your Summer closet. This way you won't be spending your money on items you don't need (your wallet will thank me later).

YOU NEED THIS FOR YOUR SUMMER WARDROBE
Big Prints. The first Summer trend that would be a great addition to your wardrobe are big prints. Prints are generally more popular in Summer than in Winter, but this Summer they are extremely popular. Because these prints are a real statement, they don't need a lot of styling. Just add some simple accessories and you're good to go. You can find these very big, artistic prints literally everywhere. The trend started on the designer runway with the floral prints from Gucci and the lemon print from Dolce & Gabbana, but now the high street is following the trend as well. I found a great dupe of the floral Gucci print at Weekday. You can find the Weekday floral blouse here (you guys literally drove me crazy where it was from on Instagram, haha!). I also found a dupe for the fruity lemon print from Dolce & Gabbana at Zaful. You can find this beautiful off the shoulder dress here.
Embroidery. Another trend that I've been loving is embroidery. It reminds me of my childhood, because my mom used to always sew a embroided patch on the holes in my skirts caused by something stupid I did, such as falling out of a tree or other tomboy activities, haha. I love pairing embroided jeans with a white tee, some mules and a cool suede jacket. Embroidery is something that exploded this year, especially after those famous Gucci jeans. Instead of jeans, I have a comfy pair of shorts to show you, that I got from Monki here.
Mules. You either love them or you hate them, but one thing is for certain: Mules are hot. Mules have been around for quite some years now, but this year the high street really embraced this Summer trend. I personally love mules, but I love mules in a slingback model even more. That's why I am completely obsessed with these Alexander Wang Nadia Sandals (you can read more about them here). They look good with literally anything: shorts, skirts, dresses, playsuits: They instantly give that edgy vibe to any outfit. You can find them here.
Suede Jackets. I'm a jacket kind of girl. I feel like no outfit is really complete without a nice jacket on top. However, in the Summer time it can be quite tricky to wear a jacket. So instead of my go to black leather jacket, I opted for two beautiful nude shade suede jackets. These jackets are made from a lighter faux suede material, which makes them more breathable than your average leather jacket. Pair these jackets with a white tee and some shorts for a real cool girl vibe, or add them to a lemon print dress to tone things down. Both suede jackets are from Zara and you can find the beige one here (and it's on sale too!).
Playsuits. One of my favorite trends for Summer are playsuits. Not only are they super easy to style, they are also really comfortable. If I want to look put together on a day when I don't want to spend time to look put together (haha), a playsuit is the perfect option. The floral and yellow playsuits I showed you are both from Zaful and you can find the yellow one here. The green playsuit is from Zara and is available here (and it's also on sale).
White tee. When it comes to Summer basics, a white tee is a must. I just love the look of a simple, crisp, white tee. Try to go for a more loose fit to make it look even more casual. My go to outfit for Summer is a white tee, some high waisted denim shorts and a pair of comfy mules. So simple, yet stylish! This one is from Zara.
High Waisted Denim Shorts. Another staple for your Summer wardrobe is a pair of good fitting high waisted denim shorts. Personally, I find it very tricky to wear shorts, because most of them don't fit nice (the struggle of thick thighs haha). However, this pair from Monki actually fits very nicely. Again, denim shorts are my go to outfit paired with a white tee and a cool jacket. You can find the Monki denim shorts here.
Denim Jacket. Another jacket that is an essential for Summer is a denim jacket. I prefer my denim jackets oversized and vintage looking, so that's why I thrifted this Levi's denim jacket. I am completely obsessed with the color of it. I think it's such an unique shade of denim blue! This denim jacket is the perfect jacket to wear in a denim on denim ensemble. I used to love the look of denim on denim, but I was never able to pull it off. This vintage Levi's denim jacket changed everything! So yeah, I recommend thrifting your Levi's vintage denim jacket, but you can find a similar jacket online here.
Sunglasses. Sunglasses are definitely a key accessory during Summer. I really recommend to invest in a good pair of sunnies, because you will use them for years. I am personally a big fan of Gentle Monster, a Korean glasses brand. All pairs that I showed you are therefore from Gentle Monster. You can read more about the first pair here, and the second Black Sheep pair here. You can purchase the second Black Sheep pair here and the third pair here.
Cross body bag. Last but not least, I feel like a basic for your Summer capsule wardrobe should be a cross body bag. My favorite cross body bag is probably the Alexander Wang Mini Rockie bag. It's super versatile, looks good with any dressy or casual outfit and it fits a lot, without looking bulky. I just love it! If you want to read more about this bag, check out this blogpost. You can find the Alexander Wang Mini Rockie bag here.
