First of all: sorry for not posting a blogpost & video yesterday. I was actually really tired after an awesome day at the Woohah Festival in Tilburg, so I just wasn’t feeling the blog thing that much. I felt kinda guilty about it, because I promised you to be a ‘fulltime blogger’ from now on, but even a fulltime blogger needs a day off sometimes too, right? ;) Anyways, previous week I went on a city trip to Gent with my girl Josie. We had such a great stay there, Gent is a great city trip city in my opinion, haha! So instead of mentioning my city trip to Gent in a Nappysnaps blogpost, I decided to start a new series called Travel Diary. Everytime I’m making a trip/vacay to a city, I’m going to write about it in a Travel Diary instead of a Nappysnaps blogpost, just so I can share some extra info with you guys, like for example my favourite hotspots! So yeah, let’s start shall we?
Rotterdam Central Station >>> Gent Central Station
IBIS GENT CENTRUM OPERA HOTEL
After our long train trip, we finally arrived at the Ibis Gent Centrum Opera Hotel. The location of this hotel is PERFECT. It’s not too far from the central station (it’s a 15/20 minute walk), but if you don’t want to drag your luggage all the way, the tram stops right next to it. The hotel is also really close to the city centre. With really close, I literally mean really close: after 3 minutes of walking you’re at the main shopping area in Gent. The service at the hotel was good to, the staff was very nice. Another big plus was the internet: it was free and it was fast enough to upload a Youtube video (#bloggerproblems, haha). I definitely recommend the Ibis Gent Centrum Opera Hotel if you’re ever planning on visiting Gent and you’re looking for a cheap hotel with a good location!
LE PAIN QUOTIDIEN
After we checked into our hotel and strolled a bit through the city, we arrived at our first hotspot: Le Pain Quotidien. This is a breakfast & lunchroom where they serve organic food. I think organic food is way tastier + it’s just better for your body, so organic restaurants are always a plus for me! They had the BEST lemonade ever there (I really wanna try to make this at home now + film it for you guys, because it was so freaking tasty!) and my egg with salmon and bread was also really good. Definitely a nice breakfast/brunch/lunch hotspot in Gent!
LE PAIN QUOTIDIEN: KALANDEBERG 10, GENT
After shooting some more outfit pictures + shopping we wanted to grab some dinner. Because it was a really hot day, we decided it was best to go for a salad. Luckily, there was a salad bar right next to our hotel, called Romain Roquette. It was brand new (it just opened for a couple of months) and I really digged the interior of the restaurant. Very Scandinavian and minimalistic, aka totally my style!
I went for a mozzarella salad + some lime lemonade. This salad was sooo freaking good you guys! I’m definitely gonna make a salad with spinach and mozzarella from now on too! So yeah, this is definitely the place to be if you want to grab a good, healthy salad in Gent!
ROMAIN ROQUETTE: NEDERKOUTER 7, GENT
After our dinner it was time for, of course, even more outfit pictures. You can check the outfit of the day blogpost that I did of this outfit here. And yup, shooting outfit pictures with 2 cameras is how fashionbloggers really do it, haha!
We were pretty tired after our first day in Gent, but we did find some energy to do some cocktails. The staff at our hotel recommend Restaurant Cafe Theatre for some nice cocktails. I ordered my go-to mojito drink, which was really good actually. The other drink was called Flower Power, but it was a bit too sweet for me. Still a really nice spot to chill and drink something in the evening!
CAFE THEATRE: SCHOUWBURGSTRAAT 5-7, GENT
BARISTA COFFEE & CAKE
So on our second and last day in Gent we decided to explore the city a bit more before heading back home. After our lovely breakfast in the Ibis hotel, we wanted to grab some coffee + something sweet. Well, Barista Coffee & Cake was definitely the place to be! Because it was freaking hot outside, we went for an iced coffee. I also ordered moelleux, which is a very heavy chocolate-y cake. It was sooo yummy you guys!
BARISTA COFFEE & CAKE: HIPPOLIET LIPPENSPLEIN 25, GENT
When in Gent, you have to visit the Make-up Designory’s Store, aka MUD Store. MUD is an American make-up brand that isn’t sold in The Netherlands. Closest country where you can get this professional make-up brand is in Belgium. We had a lovely talk with the owner of the store. He explained the idea and history behind the brand. I didn’t buy anything from MUD, but next time I’m definitely going to try one of the concealers or eyeshadows there, because they were super pigmented!
MUDSTORE: NEDERKOUTER 124, GENT
After we visited MUD Store, we wanted to grab something to drink. It was sooo hot outside, so we needed a drink asap. Fortunately, there was a cool cafe right next to MUD Store called Fithap. Josie and I decided to go for a smoothie. Her smoothie was really good, but my green smoothie was pretty horrible, haha. Okay, I still finished, because it was so healthy, but no green smoothies for me anymore, haha.
FITHAP: VLAANDERENSTRAAT 113, GENT
So that’s it for this blogpost! This travel diary ended up to be a tad bigger than I expected it to be, but I really hope it was helpful for everybody that’s planning a trip to Gent or wants a cool, not so common destination for a city trip. Don’t forget to tune in at 3 PM for my vlog of this trip to Gent too! Have a good day and I will talk to you later!
HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO GENT?
