Tomorrow is the official first day of Spring, so what better way to celebrate that by making a healthy Spring smoothie, right? In today’s Cooking Swag blogpost I’m going to show you my favourite recipe ever (EVER!) for a yummy smoothie. It has a very sweet and fresh taste, so that’s why it’s perfect for Spring. It’s also a 100% guilt-free treat, so no bad feelings afterwards! I make this smoothie a couple times a week, that’s how much I love it. It’s very easy to make, so why not jump right into it, shall we?
So what do you need? The most important ingredients of this smoothie are mint, lime & red grapes. The other ingredients are optional. You can use them all like I did, leave a couple out or add some new ones. It’s all up to you and your taste preferences! I did use some raspberries, blueberries and lemon as well. You also need some water to make the consistency of the smoothie a bit thinner.
Let’s start! The first thing that I’m going to use is half a lemon. You can use a quarter if you want your smoothie to be a little less fresh/sour. I just squeeze the lemon with my hands, but you can also use a real squeezer if you have one. Lemons are really good for you though, because they contain a shitload of vitamin C!
Staying in the citrus family, the next thing you will need is lime. I love the taste of lime and I think it makes every smoothie taste 595932 times better. Period. I used half a lime, but again, you can make it less if you want it a little bit les sour (trust me, this smoothie isn’t sour at all though). Lime also contains a lot of vitamin C!
Next up are red grapes. I bought some grapes from Albert Heijn, because their grapes are always very sweet. The grapes will add a lot of sweetness to your smoothie. They also contain a lot of moisture, so it will dilute the consistency as well. I add a handful of grapes to my smoothie. Red grapes are really good for you as well, because they contain a lot of antioxidants.
The next ingredient I’m going to use are blueberries. I got this huge tub from Albert Heijn, so freaking awesome! I can eat them as snack all day long, but I also love to add them in my smoothies. Again, I add a handful of blueberries. They also contain a lot of antioxidants, good stuff!
We’re almost there! To add some extra sweetness to the smoothie, I also added a handful of raspberries. I got these ones from my local market and they are so yummy! Raspberries are one of the healthiest berries out there and contain a lot of great minerals and nutrients. Gotta love them!
And last, but definitely not least, mint. I think the combination of lime and mint is one of the best combos ever. It’s kinda pathetic to say, but I feel like my smoothie life only started after I discovered this combination. Trust me, there’s literally no other smoothie recipe that compares to this one. Lime & mint are just partners in crime and I love them, haha! I got this mint from the local market and it has a very strong scent. I use a scissor to cut of some of the leaves.
After adding some water + blending the crap out of yo smoothie, this is the finished result! Doesn’t it look absolutely delicious? I’m getting hungry just staring at this picture, haha! The best thing about this smoothie is that it’s quick to make (just throw it in your blender and you’re good to go) and that it’s perfectly healthy. It stills my sweet tooth in a guilt-free way, which makes cravings for bad things a lil’ bit easier. And how cute does this smoothie look in a Ball masonjar right? <3
I know a lot of you out there think that making smoothies is kinda gimmicky, but trust me: it’s hella good. Sometimes I find it kind of hard to have a proper breakfast (I get kind of nauseous in the mornings), so a smoothie like this really comes in handy. It’s also the perfect studying snack. You can just sip this goodness and give your body the vitamins that it needs while watching your online uni class or doing your homework. Multitasking for the win!
That’s it for this Cooking Swag blogpost. I hope I inspired you with this recipe, ’cause this smoothie is hella good! You can also vary very easily with it, the most important ingredients are the mint, lime & grapes. All the other ingredients are optional and you can just visit your local market and buy the fruits that they sell there at the moment. I don’t have a lot to say, so I guess it’s time for a goodbye (sounds kinda dramatic, haha). Have a wonderful day you guys and I talk to you later in a new blogpost!
ARE YOU ALSO SO EXCITED FOR SPRING 2015 AS I AM?
