We all want it. That perfect matching Instagram feed. For some people it seems like one of the best kept secrets on the internet, but today I’m here to solve that mystery for you. It took me quite some time to get the hang of it and to really start loving my Insta game, but now I’m really happy with how it looks! Not claiming that my feed is perfect, but today I’m going to share all my tips and tricks that I use to create a matchy matchy Instagram feed. Hope you enjoy!
1. USE WHAT YOU GOT
I think this is such a necessary step that a lot of people don’t even think about. Before you’re going to choose what kind of feed you want, it’s important to first think of what you got. For example, you want a very clean and minimal feed, but your room contains a lot of wood and rustique accessories and you like to wear a lot of colourful clothing as well. Because most of the pictures that we take for our Instagram is of things in our daily lifes, this will be extremely difficult for that type of person. Instead, you should make a very bright, high-contrast and colourful feed to match your personality. And if you’re into that black and white vibe, it will be pretty hard to make your feed very girly and Summer-y. So, use what you got.
2. THINK OF THE FEED YOU WANT
Next step is to think of the feed you want. It’s important to have a clear picture in mind of how you want your Instagram to look like. There are a lot of different styles of Insta feeds, which can make it difficult to choose only one style. But trust me, the thing that makes these Instagram accounts so popular is the fact that they have a really good idea of what they want to post on their Insta. You should do the same!
3. VSCO CAM IS YOUR BEST FRIEND
VSCO CAM is the only app I use to edit my pictures. They have the best filters and I love the fact that you can change the intensity of every ‘edit’ or filter that you use. But there’s one extra thing that makes VSCO Cam really your new best friend and that’s the fact that you can preview your feed before it’s actually really on Instagram. This is my sneaky secret to creating that perfect feed. Of course, I’m not a genius that automatically sees if a pic looks good in my feed. What I do is that I first edit it in VSCO Cam, ‘post’ it in VSCO Cam and then check if the picture looks okay. Only then I will post it on my real Instagram account. This faux feed definitely takes my Insta game to the next level.
4. STICK TO YOUR INSTAGRAM STYLE
This is probably the most important step: stick to your Instagram style. If you decided to go with one particular theme, such as minimal, low contrast or colourful, it’s important that you only post pictures that go with that style. Yeah, I know you want to post that cute group selfie with all of your friends that you made last weekend, but if you’re going for that clean theme, a dark, low-res picture is going to screw everything up. Just try to post in on your Snapchat or Twitter instead if you want to share it! So yeah, just don’t do it. Don’t.
Don’t be scared to experiment with your photos. Go outside, try a different location or switch up the lighting. Things like a magazine as a background or taking pictures when the sun is rising can add a whole new look to your regular photos. I find that some Instagrammers just post the same kind of pictures all the time. After a while I get so bored with that and I unfollow them. So although you really have to stick to one feed style, this doesn’t mean that all your pictures should look the same!
6. ADJUST TO THE SEASON
Last, but not least: adjust your Instagram game to the season. Although you can post the perfect Summer-y pictures, a lot of people won’t like the picture as much as they would when you post it in the Summer. People want to see things that they can expect now. Fall is here, so this means a warmer feed, filled with hot coco, golden leaves and cosy knits. So keep your perfect beach pictures for next Summer!
