Say goodbye to your little black dress: the little red dress is going to be your new best friend. Red has been the hottest color this Summer (especially paired with millennial pink), but now that it's Fall, red is still going nowhere. I usually don't wear a lot of color, because I feel more confident in neutrals, and I don't really care much spending my bucks on every new trendy shade. However, red is such a classic color, it will never go out of style. That's why I decided to spoil myself on the perfect little red dress for my birthday party this week and go for the stunning Self-Portrait High Neck Star Lace Panelled Designer Dress.
The Self-Portrait High Neck Star Lace Panelled Dress
Self-Portrait is one of my favorite designer brands. I discovered this brand through one of my favorite fashion bloggers Lydia E. Millen, and ever since I've been lusting over their designs. I already own one white Self-Portrait dress that I got during my trip to Mykonos, which was one of my absolute favorite dresses to wear this Summer. After getting a good cost per wear out of that dress, I knew that it was time to add another dress to my collection. I went for the Self-Portrait High Neck Star Lace Panelled Dress, which is the perfect addition to my Fall wardrobe.
The Self-Portrait High Neck Star Lace Panelled Dress, has the most unique lace/broderie anglaise I've ever seen. Not only is the material very thick and sturdy, it also has a very stunning pattern. No flower or baroque prints: Instead, it features a combination of star guipure and circular fagotting trim in red. Especially the fagotting trim has been really popular on the runway this season.
The fagotting trim is placed exactly around your waist, creating the illusion of a hourglass figure. The dress has short sleeves and a 3-tiered mini skirt for a flattering and playful silhouette. The dress has full skirt lining, so you don't have to worry about exposing too much skin.
The neckline is finished with a little turtleneck collar stand, which I was a little bit hesitant about. However, I do feel like it adds an interesting touch to the dress, so it has definitely grown on me. Another feature of this dress that I love is the gold exposed zip at the back. Not only is it a very sturdy zipper, it makes dressing and undressing yourself very easy!
I feel like this dress is the perfect mix between sassy and sexy - just what I like!
When it comes to the styling of this dress, I wanted to keep things simple. This dress is such a statement piece, it does not need a lot of styling to make it work. To make the red color of this dress stand out even more, I decided to stick with black accessories with gold and rose gold tones. Because red is a very warm color, I feel like silver hardware and jewelry would just clash.
I went for my beloved Alexander Wang Nadia sandals, because they toughen up the look, but still add a bit of height. For my bag, I chose the Gucci Nymphaea bag. The bamboo handle compliments the red lace texture of the dress very nicely. And to finish things off I added a pair of Gentle Monster sunglasses. You can never go wrong with a pair of sunnies in my opinion!
Jewelry wise, I don't often switch things up. I always wear my everday earcandy, including the Louis Vuitton V Earrings. For my watch, I usually go for a rose gold Michael Kors, accompanied with two rose gold bracelets from Mya Bay.
The Self-Portrait Red High Neck Star Lace Panelled Dress retails for $435, but fortunately enough I got a good deal on it! I purchased my new Self-Portrait dress at the Intermix store in Georgetown, Washington DC. You can also order it online at their webshop here. You can find more information about this dress on the official Self-Portrait website here.
