MAC Cosmetics is probably my favourite make-up brand out there. I don’t know what it is, but every time I buy something at a MAC store or counter, I feel like I got a ‘well-deserved treat’. It probably has something to do with the fact that I started buying MAC lipsticks after I passed an exam… Anyways, although I love my MAC lippies, there a lot of other awesome products this brand sells too. Today I’m going to review the MAC Eye Shadow x 9 palette in the colour Burgundy Times Nine. Although they released this palette as part of the Eyes On MAC limited edition collection, this palette is going to be permanent. So don’t worry about missing it or something after reading how awesome it is in this review! 😉
This palette is part of the Eye Shadow x 9 collection and it comes with 9 shadows – pretty obvious, haha. This is actually a travel sized palette, because the shadows are way smaller than regular MAC eye shadows. That’s definitely something you need to keep in mind while purchasing this palette. The nine shades are a mix between new and permanent shadows:
- Honey Lust: Bronze dipped peach (Lustre)
- Poppyseed: Mid-tone mauvey nude (Satin)
- Quarry: Soft muted plum brown (Matte)
- Antiqued: Ash brown with bronze (Veluxe Pearl)
- Embark: Intense reddish brown (Matte)
- #Noir: Deep black brown with gold pearls (Velvet)
- Haux: Soft muted rosy brown (Satin)
- Star Violet: Pinky brown plum (Veluxe Pearl)
- Sketch: Burgundy with red shimmer (Velvet)
So now onto the swatches! I have to say, these swatches are soo up my alley. I mean, look at those pretty red-toned colours? I think red and orange colours look the best on my blue eyes. They are still rather close to earth tones (which means kind of neutral), but they make my eyes pop like CRAY, haha. I also love the fact that these eyeshadows aren’t chalky at all. Only the glitter highlighter is a lil’ bit more loosely pressed, but still very pretty. And I’m definitely a matte eyeshadow kind of gal, so seeing loads of pigmented, non-chalky matte shadows is a blessing for me.
Of course I wanted to make a make-up look with these eyeshadows. A lot of people stay away from red-toned eyeshadows, because they’re scared it will make them look like they just broke up with their boyfriend. Well, let me tell you: some well placed red eyeshadow will do just the opposite of that, ’cause you will look sexy as hell and party proof! I used Poppyseed as my base colour. Then I added some Haux through my crease. For my outer-v I used Sketch and to line my lower lash line I added a bit of Star Violet. Lastly, I used Honey Lust as a highlighter underneath my brow bone and my inner tearduct.
And this is the full face make-up! Although it’s not the most natural make-up look ever, I think it’s still perfect for an everyday make-up look. Especially with Fall coming up! Just imagine this with some burgundy lips and nails… Let me know in the comments below if you would like to see a make-up tutorial about that!
YAY OR NAY?
I think it’s not a surprise that this palette is definitely a yay! Most of my reviews are yays, but that’s just because I don’t buy bad products that often + I don’t really like to talk about negative products to be honest. This palette is the perfect travel friendly Fall palette in my opinion. If you have blue or green eyes, you NEED this palette in your life, but I do think these shadows would look good on anybody – if they’re well-applied though. This palette has pretty, unique colours that are mostly matte, not chalky and will pigmented. So yeah, MAC Cosmetics just never disappoints! Hope you enjoyed this review!
