It’s been a while since I’ve done a new MAC lipstick review, especially because I got two lipsticks + one lip pencil in the meantime. The lipstick that I’m going to review today was a present from my boyfriend for Valentine’s Day. We didn’t see each other that day unfortunately (and babe, I’m still waiting for you to pick a date 😉 ), but he did gave me this amazing MAC lipstick. Yup, that’s very cute, I know! The lipstick that he got me was Russian Red and being a Russian myself, I had to have this colour in my collection. And let me tell you guys: this colour is freaking photogenic. Don’t take me wrong, I really liked the way this lipstick looked on my lips in real life, but boy-o-boy, in photographs this lipstick is true killah. So yeah, I’m not gonna let you wait any longer, let’s get into the review, shall we? 🙂
I’m a real sucker for the MAC lipstick packaging. I don’t know what it is, but maybe it’s the simplicity of it and the fact that it almost looks like a badass bullit. At the moment I own 10 MAC lipsticks and I still need two others to finally fill up my MAC lipstick holder! Another thing that I love about MAC lipsticks is that they smell like vanilla. It’s not overpoweringly sweet or strong, but it is noticable. Vanilla is one of my favourite scents, so I definitely dig it.
It’s swatch time! As you can see, Russian Red is a true red colour. It doesn’t have any orange to it, the undertone of this lipstick is way more blue/true red. This is a great thing for those people that love a perfect smile, because red lipsticks with a blue undertone make your teeth instantly look whiter. Russian Red has a matte finish, but as you can see, it still looks pretty creamy and shiny. It’s definitely the least drying matte MAC lipstick that I own. Funny how the consistency of red lipsticks can be so different, because I heard that MAC Ruby Woo was very drying for your lips and this one definitely isn’t!
I always like to start off with my bare lips, just to show you the big difference that red lipstick makes! It’s also pretty handy to know my natural lipcolour and if it is similar to yours (every lipstick looks different on other persons because of their lip- and skincolour).
Perfect red lips alert! I mean, how freaking pretty is this lipstick right? It’s so bright that even my camera couldn’t handle it very well, haha. The lipstick looks matte on my lips, but you can still see how moisturizing this lipstick is. My lips dry out so quickly, so moisturizing matte lipsticks are amazing for me.
And this is how the lipstick looks on me in a full face shot. I don’t know if this lipstick is especially formulated for all the Russian gals outta there, but I do have to say that this lipstick goes amazingly well with my complexion. I never used to like red lips on me, because I had a orange-y red from YSL that didn’t really suit me. It was also very creamy and soft, so I always ended up with lipstick on my teeth. Well, this lipstick totally changed my red lips game, because now I know I will be rocking them way more often (often, often, girl I do this often!). So yeah, I definitely recommend this lipstick. The colour is amazing because of the blue undertone, the texture of this lipstick is very creamy and moisturizing yet matte and the pigmentation is beautiful. I wore this lipstick without any lipliner and it lasted the whole day (with some touch ups after eating). I do want to buy a matching lipliner, just because I like to overdraw my lips. So if you have any recommendations, let me know in the comments below!
Because this clutch looked so good with this lipstick, I had to make some weird selfies. Don’t blame me, haha! I actually wore this look for Valentine’s Day (while staying inside lol), so that’s why I look so girly and shit. Definitely will be rocking this lip more often though!
So that’s it for today’s MAC lipstick review! I hope you enjoyed reading this blogpost. My MAC lipstick reviews are always my best read articles, so that’s why I’m happy that I could finally post a new one! Hope you like it just as much as my previous ones, haha! Anyways, I’m gonna go now, because I have a veeeery busy day today. I need to do a crapload of homework and I need to prepare my speech for the DLA Piper Talent Award on Friday. If you follow me on Twitter, you knew that I got into the finals and now I have to give a speech to convince the jury that my charity is the one that deserves €1000. So yeah, definitely needing so good luck wishing over here!
