REVIEW | MAC STROBE CREAM

REVIEW | MAC STROBE CREAMHi there!

Strobing. It’s like the beauty world can’t stop talking about it. When I heard some people explain what strobing is, I was kind of confused. Most people said that is just ‘overdone highlighting’, but I have to disagree. In my opinion, strobing is not only about highlighting your face, it’s also a certain texture or feel that you add to your skin. It’s very dewy, so with a powder highlighter alone you won’t achieve the ‘true’ strobing effect. And the funny thing is, that I’ve been wanting to try out the MAC Strobe Cream for ages. I kept forgetting about it. But since the strobing trend has exploded and I visited Gent where they sold travel sized Strobe Creams, I couldn’t resist. So today I’m going to review the MAC Cosmetics Strobe Cream. Is it the perfect product to strobe with? We we’ll see…

packaging

REVIEW | MAC STROBE CREAMLet’s start of with the packaging. Because I wasn’t sure what I would think of this product, I decided to get a travel sized Strobe Cream instead of the full size. This tube contains 30 ml, which is in my opinion, definitely enough to try this strobe cream out properly. I think it’s very hygienic that this cream comes in a tube. Also, it comes out very nicely, so you can easily make sure you’re using the right amount of the product.

SWATCHES

REVIEW | MAC STROBE CREAMTime for a swatch! You don’t wanna know how hard it was to catch the effect of this strobe cream on camera. It almost has a holographic kind of sheen, but the camera just doesn’t do it justice at all! As you can see, although the strobe cream is white, if you work it in your skin it leaves a bit of a purple sheen. So pretty as a highligher! It also has a very dewy consistency and doesn’t accentuate any dry patches on your skin.

WAYS TO USE IT

MIX IT WITH YOUR FOUNDATION

The thing what I love most about the MAC Strobe cream is the fact that it’s so multi functional. You can use it in multiple ways and I’m going to show you my favourite ones! The first way to use this cream is to mix it in with your foundation. This really gives you that glow from within. You can make this as extreme or as natural as you want. In the first picture I don’t have any make-up on my skin (yes, my skin have been looking a bit better, finally!), in the second picture you can see the effect of my foundation mixed with the strobe cream. As you can see, it gives me a slight glow, but nothing major! Perfect for that no make-up make-up look, haha.

use it as a creamy highlighter

The next way you can use the strobe cream is as a creamy highlighter. This highlighter is perfect for lighter skintones, because it is so white. It can be a struggle to find a very light highlighter, but this one is definitely a good one to try for all of those pale ladies out there. The strobe cream adds a very nice shine to my cheekbones, but it’s not unnatural. Love it!

use it as a base for your powder highlighter

And the last way you can use the MAC Strobe Cream is as a base for a powder highlighter. Sometimes, powder highlighters can make your skin appear a little bit flat. They just add some glitter, but no ‘deepness’ or ‘texture’. That’s why it’s so awesome to layer highlighters: if you first add a creamy highlighter and then put a powder highlighter on top, you create kind of 3D effect on your skin. Yes, that sounds pretty awesome indeed, haha! As you can see, if you use the Strobe Cream as a base, you can still see a bit of that holographic glow on your skin + a very fleekish extra glow from the powder highlighter (I used The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer by the way).

YAY OR NAY?

REVIEW | MAC STROBE CREAMI think this MAC Strobe Cream is definitely a yay. It is a multi functional + easy to use way to start strobing your skin. It didn’t irritate my skin at all and you can go from a natural to a pretty extreme strobing effect with this cream. I won’t recommend buying the full size of the Strobe Cream though, just because you need a little bit every time you use it, so you will probably never finish it! And I think 30 ml for €10 is a pretty good deal for MAC :). So yeah, I really recommend this product, in my opinion it’s the ultimate strobing essential!

REVIEW | MAC STROBE CREAMSo that’s it for this blogpost! I hope you enjoy reading this review about thé Strobe Cream, haha.
