I think my best read articles are reviews about MAC lipsticks. And I know why: there’s just something about their lipsticks that makes every girl’s heart beat faster. The fact that they have soooo many shades to choose from, makes it even more interesting to read a detailed blogpost about their lipsticks as well, am I right? It’s been quite some time since I’ve done a MAC Cosmetics lipstick review, but because I’ve been spoiled recently, I have 3 (!) new shades to add to my collection. I will be reviewing all of them on my blog, starting off with MAC Viva Glam II lipstick.
I always like to start off talking about the packaging of a product I’m reviewing. Because this lipstick is part of the Limited Edition Viva Glam, it has a red packaging instead of the signature silver packaging. This lipstick was actually designed by KD Lang, a Canadian singer and songwriter. The great thing about the Viva Glam lipsticks, is that 100% (!) of the paid money goes to MAC Aids Fund. So when you’re buying this lipstick, you’re also doing something good for your community. Love that.
Swatch time! MAC describes this colour as a pinked mauve/muted pink-beige with shimmer. Although that sounds a bit mysterious, I have to agree. This is definitely a brownish/pinkish mauve colour, similar to Faux, yet not as purple. It has a cool tone and the pigmentation is bomb.com. It has a satin finish and a sliiiight (with the emphasis on slight) shimmer to it. It’s also very creamy, so it won’t dry your lips out.
This time, I wanted to show you the lip swatches a lil’ bit different than usual. Hope you like it! In the first pic, you see my lips without anything on them. I have pretty pigmented lips to begin with. In the next picture, you see MAC Viva Glam II without any liner or whatsoever. As you can see, it tones down my red-ish lips in a very beautiful and natural way. In the last picture you can see my new favourite lip combo: MAC Viva Glam II lipstick and MAC Whirl lip pencil. The lipstick is very nice to wear, because it doesn’t accentuate any dry patches that you may have and it fades beautifully during the day. No worries about awkward liplines or something. 😉
And of course, a full face shot of the lipstick! I have to say, I’m in love with the cocoa… uhm I mean lipstick, haha! I think it goes really well with my complexion. Definitely a great new addition to my MAC lipstick collection!
MAC Lip pencil combo
I always like to pair my MAC lipsticks with MAC lip pencils, because I like to overdraw my lips + they make your lippie last way longer. I feel like I found the perfect matching lip liner for this lipstick: MAC Whirl lip pencil. I looooove how it turned out on my lips and I got a couple of compliments on this combo already. So definitely get your hands on Whirl too if you’re into this lipstick (and read the whole review about this lip pencil here).
yay or nay?
MAC Cosmetics Viva Glam II lipstick is definitely a big fat yay. Honestly, I feel like this lipstick combined with the lip pencil Whirl will be my new go to lip combo this season, not gonna lie. I feel like this lipstick is a bit of an underdog and I don’t really know why. It’s beautiful and I think it will look good on a lot of skintones, especially if you have a cooler undertone. As always, you did a great job MAC! Oh and by the way, what do you think of these photos? They’re my first photos ever taken with my new Falcon Eyes ringlight! Would love to know in the comments below if you like them!
